Dubbed Features On TV! Just 8 months later than expected, it appears that the Cartoon Network in the United States & YTV of Canada have finally completed an agreement with Cloverway/Toei concerning the broadcast of the feature films (which would be the longest broadcast negotiation we have ever heard of). On behalf of all the fans: Congratulations and thanks to all the companies & individuals involved! We know how hard and how long you worked on this one! YTV announced their acquisition via an email sent on Thursday, August 30, 2001 to one of their Mailing Lists and provided to us by Deepa Trivedi. The email read, in part: We have some super-duper fantastic news ... On October 8th, 2001 we will be airing Sailor Moon movies. At this time we cannot confirm titles or times, but we suggest that you check back with us closer to that date as by then we will be able to confirm. Please note, however, that all schedules are subject to change without notice. Although YTV made the announcement first it is believed that the Cartoon Network started, framed and completed the negotiations. Not wanting to be outdone, the Cartoon Network has been considering airing all of the features in October as well. We believe that this is totally unnecessary and that (even though it might result in slightly lower ratings) the features should be run in November during Sweeps. (Who says we don't care about this network anymore?) Meanwhile, YTV may have misled fans again. In the same email, YTV hinted of the very premature activity concerning "Sailor Stars." They wrote: We currently hold the rights to air up to episode 159 of 'Sailor Moon' the S series. That is all the current information we have on 'Sailor Moon'. At this time we do not have information on episodes beyond #159. We suggest you check back with us at the end of August or visit our website at www.ytv.com as we will have more information available at that time. Well of course with the email being sent on the next to the last day of the month, August has already come and gone! There will be no immediate news concerning "Sailor Stars" unless fans buy those Luna Spheres (see way above) and/or U.S. viewers watch the series on Kids' WB! |
