Happy Holidays!

Season's Greetings! To all the Fans and Companies

We Sailor Moon fans have a lot to be thankful for this year. Not only did we receive the dub of the 3 animated features but also 2 full seasons of episodes (with subtitled versions to start next year)! On behalf of fans everywhere we thank all of the companies and individuals who made this possible. We wish you and all of your families a happy and successful new year!

And to all the fans who visit our site, thank you for visiting and supporting Sailor Moon! We hope all of you have a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!

Although Sailor Moon is only an anime, it's spirit and lessons are very clear and we believe helpful to the world. We hope that all of us can carry this spirit in our everyday lives and help make the world a better place.

Warm Wishes From Our Family To Yours.

Sailormoon & Christmas

That's right, Santa-san. You need 5 more presents.

Although there was never an anime episode on Christmas (Hey Toei, why not propose a special to Naoko?), there have been plenty of related projects & merchandise.

Other than brief references to the holidays and a scene where Tuxedo Mask was disguised as Santa Claus (in the animated feature, "Sailor Moon S"), the closest to Christmas Sailormoon ever got was with, "Sailor Senshi no Christmas." This was a live action special produced exclusively for the laser disc release (Volume 9, shown below) of the first series, "Pretty Soldier Sailormoon." The special is a Christmas party presented by the Japanese Voice Artists, Kotono Mitsuishi (Usagi/Sailor Moon), Aya Hisakawa (Ami/Sailor Mercury), Emi Shinohara (Makoto/Sailor Jupiter), Rica Fukami (Minako/Sailor Venus) and Yasuhiro Takato (Artemis). They talk, sing and dance, do some silly things and eat Christmas cake.

The 5 Inner Senshi Voice Artists performed (in character) on 2 Christmas CDs released by Nippon Columbia Co., Ltd.

"Sailor Stars Merry Christmas" was released on November 1, 1996 (Catalog #COCC-13827) and sold for Y2500 (about US$25.00). It has some English lyrics and dialogue on it but not much. You can still find a copy of it once in a while.

A much better album is the "Christmas For You" soundtrack which was released on December 1, 1995 and re-released on November 30, 1997 (Catalog #COCC-13058). The compact disc originally sold for Y2000 (about US$20.00). Today it is completely out of print and there are no plans to release it again. And even though it's almost impossible to find, it remains one of the most accessible soundtracks to English-speaking fans.

Why? Because this soundtrack (with its virtue of being a Christmas Songs compilation) contains the most English in any production. Not only is language less of a barrier but the usage of very familiar songs helps tremendously. If you're trying to learn or understand Japanese, here is an excellent place to start. To top things off it's an excellent production and is considered to be one of the best Sailormoon albums produced and one of the best Japanese Christmas albums ever produced.

Our special gift to all our visitors this holiday season are streaming versions of all the songs from this collection!

In order to hear the songs you will need at least a 5.0 (or later) version of RealPlayer Basic or RealAudio Player. You can get these over the Internet for free from RealNetworks. You do not need to buy one of their RealPlayer Plus versions, you just have to look for one of their free Basic Players (carefully hidden on their pages). You will also need a 56k (or faster) modem. If you're on a bad ISP such as AOL, you might get less interruptions if you try late at night or early in the morning. For unbelievably long, boring & detailed tips on how to access streaming audio visit the kind people at The Cosmic Forces who are generously providing the web servers & bandwidth for free! (Older fans may want to check out their Internet radio series, "The Soul Patrol" which seems to have some "Sailor Moon" influences.)

If you should not be able to receive streaming audio, there are MP3s available (when their server is working) at The Compleat Sailor Moon CD List.

Something You Probably Won't Find Under The Tree.....
UFOs!

Christmas Plushies 1Christmas Plushies 2

Yep, Banpresto made these once; UFO Catcher plush dolls of the 5 Inner Senshi known as the "Sailormoon S Christmas set." Released in October 1994 they were only available through catcher arcade game machines in Japan. The following Christmas, Banpresto (also known as Banprest) produced plushies of Sailor Chibi Moon, Diana & Super Sailor Moon. Known as the "Sailormoon SuperS Christmas set" they were released in October 1995. Fans should know that in the book, "Banprest Character Prize Taikan" (which is like the encyclopedia of Banprest merchandise and a MUST for every collector), they mistakenly listed the release as October 1994!

Sometimes you can find these dolls in Japan in used merchandise stores or on Yahoo Japan, and at Auctions (both Online & Offline). If you can't find them as a set, it might be possible to find each doll separately and put a set together. But good luck hunting as these dolls are rare and hard to find! (They also make great tree ornaments!)
